Under normal conditions, 304 grade stainless steel welded mesh can last 10-20 years outdoors. 316 grade can last 20 years or more.

The key is that stainless steel doesn't "rust away" like ordinary steel. It forms a protective layer on the surface that stops rust from forming.

But there's a catch. Stainless steel is rust-resistant, not rust-proof. In coastal areas with salt spray, or chemical plants with acidic exposure, the surface may still develop some staining or tiny pits after many years.
